FM:Systems Celebrates 25th Anniversary

RALEIGH, N.C. – February 24 , 2009 – FM:Systems, a leading provider of integrated workplace management systems (IWMS) and computer-aided facility management (CAFM) software, today announced its 25th  year of delivering facility management services amongst continued company growth entering 2009. While budgets scale back in the wake of the global economic downturn, the software firm experienced 16 percent revenue growth in 2008 and 28 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the past four years. Adding more than 38 new customers, FM:Systems also expanded its global footprint with new business partnerships in the UK, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, the Caribbean, Nigeria and South Korea.

The recent report from Gartner Research, “IWMSs Gain Momentum with Senior Management”, found that facilities costs are the second largest opportunity for savings for most enterprises. Considering that many organizations spend millions every year in facilities costs, even small-percentage savings can represent substantial bottom-line cost reductions. With the current economic downturn, FM:Systems has enabled customers to cut costs associated with workplace planning and operations. One example is Herman Miller, a leading global provider of office furniture and services that create great places to live, learn, work and heal.

Prior to implementing FM:Systems, Herman Miller used three different processes to manage workplace information – a work order system, a real estate system and paper floor plans for space management. The systems did not integrate, making workplace information difficult to gather and share. With the implementation of FM:Interact, Herman Miller addressed these challenges and has continued to expand to address new business problems and create a comprehensive integrated workplace management system – cutting move costs from $2 million per year to less than $250,000 per year and reducing move times by 57%.

“Since we started working with FM:Systems, we have been able to significantly improve our performance and increase our workload,” said Dave Kuiper, corporate workplace strategist, Herman Miller. “This has enabled our group to focus on the bigger picture and become a more strategic player in the business.”

Expanding its international presence in 2008, FM:Systems partnered with NJW, Ltd., a UK-based company of independent specialists dealing exclusively with the application and management of business information systems for facilities and real estate, SIMEKS Malaysia, a software firm providing IT solutions and facilities management consultancy services, and Messrs ShelterCareFMConsult, a Nigerian-based company with software and training to ensure quality implementations of FM:Systems products in and around Nigeria.

Exhibiting increased industry leadership, Michael Schley was named to the International Facility Management Association’s (IFMA) 2008 class of IFMA Fellows. To date, only 79 individuals have been recognized as IFMA Fellows. Collectively the elite core of Fellows represents the most esteemed facility management professionals, distinguished authors, prolific academicians and leading facility management visionaries.

“Being in business for 25 years is a significant milestone. It not only proves we’ve continued to leverage the latest advances in technology, but also that our customers continue to realize the benefits of our products,” said Schley. “Scaling down facility costs will be a significant concern for organizations moving forward. We hope to continue to provide quality solutions to help our customers cut costs and improve productivity in their enterprise.”
